re: [RP] Echoes of Lordaeron Background

0

Almost one year ago Echoes of Lordaeron was formed. Today I feel it is time to write down the roots of our guild. What brought us together and what should be a part of our being not only then, but now and in the future.

About 10.000 years ago the world was torn asunder by an event called The Great Sundering. How and why it happened is not important now, but of the surviving Kaldorei a small group banded together and called themselves Survivors of Azshara, referring to their treacherous queen.
As millennia went by without much further turmoil in the Kaldorei lands, except for the occasional hostilities between the Kaldorei and the trolls, the group stayed together. They had lost their homes and had no wish to settle elsewhere. So they traveled through Kalimdor, as a mobile beacon of hope for those in need. No matter if it where feral animals threatening a farm, hostile trolls or mere bandits, the Survivors of Azshara dealt with it quickly.

When the third war knocked on the door of the Night Elves and an alliance was formed between Kaldorei, Human, Dwarf and Gnome they quickly saw that those in need where not only the Night Elves anymore and the survivors extended their “work terrain” to the Eastern Kingdoms as well. As many people lost their homes and wished to take up arms against the burning legion and other forces of evil the Survivors remembered their own roots and they opened their ranks to any refugees willing to fight, be it with weapons or other powers.
During the years that followed the ranks where strengthened by adventurers of all races and trades and their skills where highly appreciated. Some of them rose to power in the guild, because of their outstanding dedication. As the guild was no longer solely run by the Kaldorei, some of the elder members felt their time was over and they stepped down to let others take over.

By the time the Dark Portal was opened and the threat from the Burning Legion was bigger only a quarter of the Survivors where still Kaldorei.
Many things drew them to the outlands and curiosity was not the least amongst those reasons. A guild that so far has been without political affiliation, taking care of the forgotten people, the farmers, the small villages and towns and sometimes taking small parts in bigger operations, was now thrown into the middle of a huge war.
The old members tried to hold fast to their old ways, staying in the background and helping out in small ways. But some of the newer people feared that it would not be enough. The Alliance, and for that matter the Horde as well, where struggling to keep the Burning Legion from overwhelming us and this time there was more at stake, this time the world itself could be destroyed!
Three months after the dark portal was opened those radicals split off from the Survivors and formed a new guild with only one goal: to stop the Burning Legion and save Azeroth (and Outland…).
The ties to the old Kaldorei land where not as strong in the new guild as it was in the Survivors. There where a lot of Humans and Dwarves and faith in the Light ran strong in the founders of this new guild. They felt the need for not only a shared goal, but they also wanted a tie to the old world, to Azeroth, something to remind them what they are fighting for.
Many of the “new survivors” where descendants of Lordaeron. Not royalty or nobility, but farmers and tradesmen by birth, still the glory and heroism of the old days in Lordaeron where fresh in their minds. The tales and legends of Lordaeron and it’s heroes like Uther also spoke to the imagination of the other members and so it was decided that they would hold the old State of Lordaeron as a shiny example. Something to strive for: that a place like that could once more exist on Azeroth. A place with peace and quiet, kept save by Paladins in shiny armor. Where you could raise your children without fear of demons and other evil.

And so “Echoes of Lordaeron” was born. Their symbol a golden torch as a beacon of hope on a deep blue, the color of Lordaeron.

Now, almost a year later the original founders of Echoes of Lordaeron have passed away, Baelgrim succumbed to a festering wound that could not be cured. After the loss of his dear friend Archanaar left, never to be seen again.
The torch was taken over by one of the most unlikely creatures of all: a gnome! But her Faith in the Light is strong, and she will hold true to the believes and hopes symbolized in the name and tabard of the guild, so that one day their dreams may come true.

At this moment the Echoes are focussing their attention on the Burning Legion. A tough war that requires all their attention. To have any chance of succes their ranks have been strengthened by mercenaries and treasurehunters for now. What was once a small group of people doing good deeds in small ways is now a focussed army, fighting to save Azeroth, to save the World.
